The Abbotsley Local History Exhibition,
13th - 14th May, 2006 Abbotsley Village Hall
The village of Abbotsley is situated along the B1046 road from Great Gransden to St. Neots. Its main thoroughfare is the High Street fringed with a mixture of houses bearing witness to the past and present, 17th Century thatched cottages, farm houses with their fields, 18th Century brick buildings, the old village school, now the village hall, attractive pubs and the village green where the annual feast is held.
Abbotsley held its 5th local history exhibition on the 13th and 14th, May 2006 and it was their best show yet. Just Print IT! was there taking photos on both days. The turn out was fantastic. The village hall was packed both days with no let up with the flow of people coming through the doors. There was a few family reunions going on as well, where people met their relatives for the first time or had not seen them in over a year.
Just Print IT! was proud to support this event and both days were very enjoyable. The organisers, Nanda Wisson and Barbara Ward who organised the whole event also supplied free coffee, tea, cold drinks for the young ones and biscuits throughout the two days. They also had support from some of the villagers to set up and take down the many photos on display. The photos spanned well over 100 years, the amount of information on show was vast, not only old and new photographs but, old papers and memories from some of the villagers, who have written down their stories for future generations to read.
On show was part of the "Abbotsley" An Illustrated Village Project, which is being funded by The Local Heritage Initiative and which has been written and presented by Just Print IT! The final CD which, has used extensive material existing in a private collection of photographs, will be made available to the library and schools.
The Abbotsley book and three talking CD's, Talk to Abbotsley Society by Harold Storey recorded 1993, Abbotsley Recollected by Mrs G Mulley recorded 1995 and Abbotsley Society Talk on Field Names by R Young were also on sale at the event.
